Phalen Family Top 60

Instructions:

Every member of the Phalen (and Fillioe) family must select 10 albums they consider essential. These albums will be shared with the entire family for consideration and review.
After everybody has listened to all 60 albums, we will determine our top 10 “Must Hear” albums representative of our entire family.
The 2027 family newsletter will include the final results, as well as some highlights from our reviews.

Rules:

  1. Everybody has to select 10 albums.
  2. Everybody has to listen to all selected albums, with the exception of their own 10 selections.
  3. The albums selected must represent your own personal opinion; there should not be any collaboration or consultation with other family members.
  4. Repeats between family members will be allowed and respected. Anybody who selects an album already picked by somebody else can select one additional “bonus” album, which will not be considered required listening for the rest of the family.
  5. All selected albums must be professionally produced. No mixtapes!
  6. Soundtracks and Greatest Hits albums will be accepted, with the caveat that they will likely be mocked by the rest of the family.
  7. You may select as many albums by the same artist as you deem appropriate. This is all about the albums you think are essential!

Additional steps that would be helpful to Ginny:

  1. Please select a photo of yourself from any era that you think would make a good album cover. This will be used on your page.
  2. Please provide a brief description of your taste in music.
  3. Please provide a sentence or two summarizing why you selected each album. You don’t need to go too in-depth; something like, “This song reminds me of my high school years,” would be sufficient!
  4. Please name some of your favorite tracks from each album, but try not to exceed five.
  5. If the album has different versions/editions, please specify which version you consider essential. If no version is specified, Ginny will default to the original release.
